Today I had the opportunity to go whale watching for the very first time.
I would say that it was a once in a lifetime type experience. The reason I say this is because I am prone to seasickness.
The first two hours were fine as I enjoyed the top outdoor deck and the fresh air and sea felt very calming and therapeutic, however by the third hour I was feeling the swaying of the boat and felt somewhat dizzy and uneasy.
Overall, it was an okay experience. The boat was a short trip off the Balboa coast and headed out to sea for about three hours. We saw two schools of dolphins. The first school was the "common dolphin" which range from 4 to 6 feet per our tour guide. The second school of dolphins was a bit larger and they had white bellies with gray coated backs. These dolphins were more interesting to see as they were much larger and liked to follow the boat alongside it.
We did manage to see one whale, however it was only for a short minute as it dove underneath the ocean and that was the end of the trip. I can't remember the name of the whale.
I'm glad the weather was overcast today as it allowed us to take in the breeze and fresh air, however that may have been why we didn't catch a glimpse of many whales. It was quite chilly and overcast.
