Book Review: True Love by Jennifer Lopez

I started reading this book because I wanted to know more about Jennifer Lopez because she is one of my favorite artists of all time. Little did I know I would walk away a stronger person because of it. This book takes you on a journey through the past year of Jennifer Lopez's life. This past year she went on a world tour and also ended up getting a divorce. It was a busy year for her and we are taken through this journey throughout the book.

Jennifer Lopez details how the divorce really brought her down and how she had to deal with really bad anxiety because of it. She also gained a therapist throughout the process and learned that she had to look back at all her failed relationships and see where she went wrong. Jennifer describes that she is a people pleaser and always wanted her parents and family to be proud of her. She never stopped to think that she wanted to make herself proud.

In the book, Jennifer describes how she had to learn to love herself after the divorce. She never really learned this in the past. She also read a lot of self-help books that also helped her. She also talks about her support group which is her close friends and family. They saw her go through his tough time and in a way went through it themselves.

Jennifer not only takes us on a personal journey throughout the book but also the journey of her Dance Again tour. I had the pleasure of attending her tour when it took place in Los Angeles and it was amazing. In the book, we see how she put the concert together and separated it into different acts. We see that choreographers put a lot of work into the tour. My favorite act was act 3: funky love. I really enjoy the hip hop Jennifer Lopez. It's interesting to note, however, how many different genres her music encompasses. She has ballads, r&b, hip hop, Spanish, funk, Latin hits, etc. We are taken through a journey of her career by going into the different acts of her tour and how this played throughout her life.

What we learn throughout the book is how important family is to Jennifer. She describes loving her kids as a unique love she had never experienced before in her life. She also describes her mom as a funny, loving mother who stuck by her side throughout the divorce.

I believe this book is outstanding. If you are a true Jlo fan and even if you're not, this book is for you. It really is an inspiring book for those of us who have suffered through a divorce for example. We see how Jennifer had to pick herself up again and basically start over again. Sometimes we have to do the same in our own lives. Self-help books can be a great support and so can this book.

I highly recommend this book and hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
