Preparing for Mardi Gras and Lent

I'm so excited to share that I will be celebrating Mardi Gras' Fat Tuesday with my bestie at Downtown Disney's Jazz Kitchen. They will have live music and food and drink specials as well. You can make reservations by phone or do like us and sit at the bar. They will also have a live band and Mardi Gras celebration right across the way at House of Blues.

The next day begins the Lent season that starts on Ash Wednesday and finishes on Easter Sunday. I'm planning on attending St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Tustin. Their English service starts at 12:10pm which culminates in placing the ash cross on your forehead.

To make the Lent season even more fun, McDonald's will have their annual special on their Filet O' Fish on Fridays beginning on February 20th. For many Catholics celebrating the Lent season, Fridays are a day where they observe not eating meat. I have been celebrating this annual tradition for the past few years by eating at McDonald's for lunch on Fridays.

I haven't decided what I'm going to give up for Lent this year but I have a few ideas. My friend Karen suggested I give up sugar. I could also give up smoking or coffee which I can't live without. I don't think I will give up any of these since it will be difficult. I'm hoping to add something instead. For example, I can save up $50 a week or not miss church for the entire Lent season.

I'm excited for Lent and hope to learn a lot at church during this time.
